Check out the Forest Level, one of nine huge lands you'll be able to explore in our upcoming game Paradox Embrace. Click the "continue reading" link below the image to read tons of newly released info about this game!
Paradox Embrace [available to play now!] is a puzzle platformer. The puzzle part of the game is still a secret and you'll have to wait to play the game to find out what that's all about, but it'll involve exploring the level, learning how the world works and unlocking its mysteries in order to reach the goal and advance to the next level. The whole world is a puzzle.
You'll use arrow or WASD keys to move and jump around the level, and there'll be fire traps and enemies patrolling around looking to bring you the pain. In this screenshot we've revealed one of the enemies that you'll encounter: the Black Hound. His bite is nasty but his bark is pretty terrifying too, echoing as if in an enclosed space even when you are outdoors. You'll also notice the eyes of the tree person which burn like fire when touched. These eyes exist throughout the world, watching your every move, taunting and judging your performance. It seems these beasts cannot be harmed in any physical way, so you'll need to avoid them on your journey.
The red glowing orb is your energy, confidence and determination, and each hit you take makes it fade, shrivel and wither away. You'll find useful items throughout the world that you can pick up and use to unlock the mystery as well as restore some of your diligence. One of these items is revealed in this screenshot, which appears as two ghostly purple flasks. (I wouldn't recommend drinking the purple goo until you seen what affect it has on the world around you first.)
The thought bubble appearing out of the player is the hint system in the game that helps you learn about different things and how you can interact with them. Just stand still for a moment near something that looks interesting and see what appears in the bubble. Then find that thing in the world and come back to see what's different. For instance, you might come to a wide and deep hole with a broken bridge dangling on either side of it that you can't jump across, but there's a sign pointing you to the other side. Just stand near the edge where the bridge dangles and see what it is you need to bridge the gap.
When you beat a level you will see the number of minutes it took you to complete it on the world map. Then when you return to the level you'll see a clock below the inventory bag, seen in this screenshot. If you beat the game you'll also have a Game Time shown at the top of the world map. Use these clocks to try to beat your fastest time and see if you can beat your friends' times. If you play on Newgrounds.com, speeds run can earn you several Badges and lots of NG points!
As for the release date, we were shooting for September/October, but we put so many cool things and extra polish in the game that it delayed the game a few months. As of right now the game is about 99% finished and we're coordinating with Newgrounds on a release date, so hopefully it will be before the end of the year. Check back and we'll be sure to announce it as soon as it's released.
I have tried to wrap my mind around it, to fit the pieces together and form something coherent. But each time I try it shatters me, bringing the grand scheme crashing down and leaving me where I started, only with more scars and more questions. They insist it must be obtainable and in perfect symmetry, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. I have yet nothing to show for my efforts, but alas I must complete this journey. I have turned over every stone and there is no where left to turn. Paradox embrace is my only option...
