Assassin's Creed for Christmas

Assassin's Creed has the most realistic runtime
graphics I've ever seen in any game ever
12/27/08 - I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I got Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, Too Human, and Banjo Kazooie for Christmas. So far I'm digging Assassin's go anywhere, climb anything, non-linear world, which doesn't require every corner to be explored or every city to be memorized. Although you can try to collect all the flags scattered throughout the world if you're hardcore, luckily for me they're trivial enough that I don't feel compelled to kill myself trying to find every last one. Skipping across the city rooftops is a lot of fun and is very similar to (though easier than) Mirror's Edge (in case you didn't know I'm into the whole freestyle running/extreme rooftop action thing, hehe).

The sword-fighting intricacies so far are very engaging, with blocking and counter attacks that keep you on your toes, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other techniques open up as the game goes on.

The historical storyline doesn't seem too engaging or believable, but I'm definitely interested to know how the present-day storyline will play out. It's a little jarring how realistic the graphics look but how silly some of the human behavior is, like making a guard not notice you even though you're standing right in front of him as long as you walk very slowly. But, on this point I'll commend the creators because I believe it's OK to remember that it's a game. Even though graphics are becoming ever-more realistic, that doesn't mean gameplay has to. I'll have more on the other games later.
